Are The Herbal Academy’s Herbalism Courses right for you? Here is my honest assessment so you can judge if this is what you are looking for on your herb journey.

I got the chance to take a class that is still in beta testing for free. I wasn’t asked to write a review or give anything in return, so I figured “what have I got to lose except an hour or so.”
I really didn’t expect a lot out of it. But I was pleasantly surprised. By the time I finished the course, (which took several hours I might add) I contacted them and asked If I could be an affiliate. I was that impressed.
Let me tell you about my experience.

My Herbal Journey To This Point.
I am not a doctor. I do not know all the things doctors know.
I do, however, believe there is a very important place for doctors. If I have a ruptured appendix, I want a doctor and a hospital, fast!
But many pharmaceutical drugs act to mask or relieve symptoms but not heal the problem. And many have a lot of side effects.
I want to find a way to avoid as many of these as I can. And I want to find ways to keep me and my family healthier and avoid seeing a doctor as much as possible. I think it’s good to grow many of our own fruits and veggies in my garden and raise my own meat and eggs where I can.
And, we can use herbs in a way that helps keep us healthy.
I’ve dabbled with herbs over the years. A tea for my tummy, a poltus for a sore shoulder. But I wanted to learn more about herbalism.
I’ve heard about The Herbal Academy for years, but the time was never “just right”. Until I saw this intro course and I jumped at the chance to check it out.

The Lost Art Of Herbal Medicine
When my grandmother was a girl every household had an herb garden and the knowledge to use it to keep the family healthy. The doctor in the town also had a wide knowledge of herbalism.
But much of that knowledge has been lost and is so far removed, many people are actually afraid of herbs today.
That leaves the question for those of us who have an interest in using the power of plants for healing purposes. Where can we learn about using herbs safely and effectively?

What Is The Herbal Academy’s Introductory Herbal Course?
The Herbal Academy’s Introductory Herbal Course is an online self-study program.
The course I took was just a beginner’s course. I thought that was a good way to get my feet wet and see what this school was all about. I was amazed at how much information was in the first little class.
In this beginner’s herbalism course, you will learn why herbs are important, and how to use them in teas, infusions, decoctions, tinctures, syrups, topical applications, and body care products. They were very thorough with how to use each herb, what parts to use, safety information, and dosing.
There were charts that showed which herbs were safe for everyday use, which for occasional use and which should only be used under the care of a professional.

Hands-on
Each lesson was laid out well, easy to understand and full of information. At the end of each section, you are encouraged to make your own tea, tincture or hand salve or whatever the lesson is about, which is a fun way to actually use what you were learning. It also helps you remember what you were just taught.
There were several recipes for future use as well.
The lessons start with written instructions on how to prepare each product, and then they have a video to show you, so if you are a visual learner you could still understand the process.
Terminology is explained so you are not left scratching your head wondering what was just said.
You have the ability to work at your own pace toward completion of the course and can spend more or less time on each unit.
All the equipment is very basic. I had most of it in my cupboards at home. But they also let you know where you can get what you don’t have.
Taking this course has helped me lay a good foundation for my knowledge on herbalism and helped get me started with practical uses I could work into my everyday life right from the start.

You Can Trust The Information.
I’m impressed with how thorough they are. Each chapter contains useful printouts and resource pages to add to your herbal studies binder.
They back up the lessons with facts. At the bottom of each chapter, you can find the resources they used. And additional learning materials. It’s a great way to learn more about each subject they are teaching.
All the information found in the course is backed up by research studies, well-known herbalists, and reference materials.

A Class For Everyone
For students who simply want to gain a strong foundation in herbalism for making herbal remedies for their own family members, the Beginner and Intermediate herbalist courses are probably all you need.
And they are also a great place to start if you are interested in taking the next step towards more advanced herbalism. Or if you are already a ways along your journey there are more advanced courses.
You can even combine courses depending on what you want to do with your herbal education by pursuing one of their Herbal Pathway programs.
They also teach short courses around specific topics like Herbal Fermentation and Botanical Skin Care.
The course encourages making herbal medicine from dried herbs rather than fresh. So if you don’t have a garden, you can still learn loads from these courses.
You can check out all they have to offer right here.
What can you do with an herbal education?
There are many opportunities to make a living as an herbalist. You can create your own products and sell them, which the herbal academy has a class on specifically. They teach you to be an entrepreneur in the herbal field.
You can even become an herbalist with your own practice and help others.
Or you can just use them for your own family and have full confidence in your knowledge and skill.
There are LOTS of possibilities!

What You Need to Know Before Beginning Herbal Academy’s Intro Course
You only have a limited amount of time to finish the course. So don’t sign-up for the class and think you will finish it someday.
But, at the top of every unit, there is a link to save the entire unit in a PDF. So if you can’t get to it now at least you don’t lose the whole class.
You can save the entire course into a PDF, and if you wish you can print it out and keep it in a binder so you access the information and recipes offline.
